School hygiene and facilities

School is a place or rather it is referred to as the institution which serves the purpose of uplifting the society at large by providing the basic human right which is ‘Education.’

A rather formal introduction of school can be observed as – ‘A school is an educational institution designed to provide learning spaces and learning environments for the teaching of students under the direction of teachers. Most countries have systems of formal education, which is sometimes compulsory. In these systems students’ progress through a series of schools.’ A school aids in making the child an active participant in learning new things.

School is an institution of teaching and learning. Since many children come here to educate themselves, it becomes mandatory to clean the premises on a daily basis and keep sanitation of it too. Sanitation, hygiene and cleanliness are all extremely important for a students’ health. The concept of sanitation not only includes keeping the surroundings clean but also having access to clean drinking water, clean and healthy food which is nutritious, and adequate treatment of human excreta and sewage. Having a clean environment and access to all these basic facilities helps to keep the health of a person in check which in turns results in less frequency of a person in falling sick.

It becomes important to promote sanitation as lack of sanitation often causes diarrheal symptoms. Proper guidance and heed should be paid to improve and maintain sanitation at home as well as in school premises. It can be improved through various steps, firstly by keeping in check the cleanliness of toilets, secondly by promoting hygiene habits through education and learning in children and make them aware of the causes of sanitation.
